TRANSFER POLICIES
Articulation Agreement by Major
Effective during the 02-03 Academic Year
Based on the 01-02 UC Transfer Course Agreement
====BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES, B.A. & B.S.====
IMPORTANT INFORMATION -- PLEASE NOTE:
This articulation agreement lists course-to-course or sequence-to-sequence
substitutions for preparation in the major. Course exceptions permitted only
for a particular major are noted as "acceptable for substitution." Transfer
students are strongly advised to complete as many major preparatory courses as
possible prior to enrolling at UCSB. Completion, or near completion, of major
preparatory courses will help students move more efficiently toward graduation
after transfer. Please note that these course "equivalencies" do not
necessarily apply to UCSB general education. For information concerning
satisfaction of UCSB general education requirements, please refer to the
GE/Breadth Articulation Agreement.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: All biological science majors screen applicants on the basis of a grade
point average of 2.70 or better in science and math major preparatory courses.
It is highly recommended that students complete as many of the major preparatory
courses as possible with no grade less than "C" prior to admission. At
minimum, students must complete one year of general chemistry with laboratory,
and at least one year-long sequence from within calculus, organic chemistry with
laboratory, general physics with laboratory, or general biology with
laboratory.
Students are admitted initially to the pre-major. Acceptance to full major
standing is contingent upon achievement of a grade point average of 2.00 or
better in pertinent courses completed at the University of California. Because
the criteria are subject to annual review and revision, interested students
should consult the department directly to obtain current information regarding
specific additional criteria for admission to the full major. Acceptance into
the pre-major does not guarantee automatic admission to full major status.
