Articulation Agreement by Major
Effective during the 01-02 Academic Year
Based on the 01-02 UC Transfer Course Agreement
====BIOLOGY, B.S.====
The Biological Sciences Departments at UCSC offer a broad spectrum of courses
that reflect the exciting new developments and directions in the field of
biology. An outstanding group of faculty is available to teach courses in
their specialities as well as core courses for the major. Areas of research
within the department include RNA molecular biology, molecular and cellular
aspects of genetics and plant biology, animal behavior, evolution, ecology,
conservation biology and marine biology. UCSC is unique in the UC system in
providing exceptional opportunities for undergraduate research, allowing
students to interact one-on-one with faculty and other researchers in
a laboratory or field setting.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All of the biological science major programs require a strong foundation in
the physical sciences and mathematics. Students may plan a program that leads
either to the B.A. degree or to one of several more advanced B.S. degrees.
The latter are more appropriate for students planning to go on to graduate
programs or to medical, dental, or veterinary schools.
It is very important for transfer students to complete science prerequisite
courses before transfer, especially first-year general chemistry. Students
should also take introductory biology, calculus, and if possible, organic
chemistry. Prospective transfer students should contact the Biology
Undergraduate Advising Office at (831) 459-4143.
